MBABANE – The PLS has refuted claims of bias when crafting their weekly fixture schedules.

On condition of anonymity, teams’ representatives raised concerns over the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) games programme with some high profile matches made as curtain-raisers for category B or C matches.

“Never mind the recent trophy drought between Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Highlanders but it is unthinkable that a game of this nature, with such a rich history and attracts the most fans, can be a curtain-raiser for any game of any sort currently. Last weekend, we had a big game between Matsapha United and Young Buffaloes, a repeat of the SwaziBank final played just seven months ago playing first with Royal Leopard against little known newcomers Vovovo in the main match. It raises eyebrows really,” said one team official.
PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati explained that every decision they take as an office is in the best interest of their affiliates and football.

“Every team has played an early match and it is not like there is one team that always plays later in the afternoon. I know the concerns are centered on one team, Mbabane Swallows, and it is unfortunate that a successful team will always attract criticism.

When crafting the fixture, we are transparent when going about it and we consider competing teams and fan-base among other things. It will be better if these teams cite a violation of rules, then it can be another case,” Vilakati explained.

He added that his office was always open to concerns and ideas to help improve the sport.
