MBABANE – The chilly and wet conditions at the country’s capital yesterday morning did not deter 49 runners who braved the inclement weather for the 24th edition of the Mbabane Parkrun.

Once again, Nkululeko Gama of USDF Athletics Club recorded his 11th win on the same number of attempts but did not match his personal best time of 15:17 minutes yesterday as he clocked 15:54. The Parkrun is a 5km event where runners pace against the clock.

The course is 5000m (5km) long and is at Mbabane Club. The course is run on a mixture of grass and trail paths. Some sections of the course accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain as witnessed yesterday.
While Nkululeko remains the men record holder in the event, Stephanie Dowling is the female record holder with 22:57 minutes.

The Mbabane Parkrun is one of over a thousand from across the globe, according to organiser Lean Drinkwater. In the 24 events, the Mbabane Parkrun has had 644 different runners but has 837 registered members.
“The event is open to everyone at no cost but it is essential for one to register,” Drinkwater explained.
The parkrun’s biggest attendance remains 139 and the average time run is 40:52 minutes. Since the first race, participants have run for 68 days, 19 hours 37 minutes and 31 seconds which equates to 12 200km distance covered. The Mbabane Parkrun is staged every Saturday starting at 8am from Albert Milling through the Mbabane Park and back.
