HOW TO CONQUER MALAGWANE

MBABANE- On Sunday, October 8, participants of the three-pronged Imbube Marathon will have to battle the menacing Malagwane Hill.


The legendary slopy route posed challenges for many runners last year. And experts have highlighted that most struggled due to lack of strategy to outwit the energy sapping hilly terrain.


While the start and finishing lines have been changed for this year’s race, the 42.2km route will still require runners to face the Malangwane Hill challenge.


It starts at Somhlolo, go to Elangeni,passes at Mlindazwe,Buka,Satelight and then joins the Manzini-Mbabane highway uphill Malagwane, passes Engen Filling Station, turns at Mbabane bus rank,passes KFC, Total Garden Filling Station, Hospital Hill and down Malagwane Hill again. It continues with the highway then turn right to joins Mvutjini route, Emlalatini, International Church,Mashibini, Somhlolo Memorial Park, Parliament and finally the winning point is at Somhlolo National Stadium.


The 21km goes the same route as 42km but it turns at corner Plaza.
Zithande Athletics Club coach Nsizwa Thwala has some tips on how one can conquer the notorious Malagwane hill.
