MBABANE – Barely a week after being reappointed General Manager at Manzini Wanderers, Patrick Gamedze has stepped down.

Gamedze tendered his resignation letter to the directors yesterday. He said he felt he needed to move on after playing his part in the team.
“I prefer to resign forthwith as I believe I have done my part at the club.

“The experience I have gained is invaluable and I thank you (directors) for the working relationship I have enjoyed during my tenure,” reads Gamedze’s letter in part.

While Gamedze only stated that his reason for ‘jumping ship’ was that he needed to ‘pass on the baton’, it was no secret that the National Supporters Committee (NSC) wanted him out. They once threatened to grab the team car from him. Just last week, the NSC publicly challenged his reappointment as GM, saying their preferred candidate for the post was former Mbabane Mayor, Sikhatsi Dlamini.

Team Director, Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini, who is currently out of the country, felt Gamedze walked out as he was tired of continuous ridicule.
“He’s tired of all the insults and accusations levelled against him. I’m out of the country, so I’ll replace him tomorrow (today),” was all Dlamini could say.

Gamedze, who is a former Member of Parliament of Mtfongwaneni outside Manzini, was first appointed GM of the team in September 2015.
The seven-member Wanderers MC, that includes the resigned top official, was announced by Dlamini last Tuesday.
