MBABANE – Should Mbabane Swallows batten down the hatches? with this afternoon’s MTN League opener clash against Young Buffaloes looming larger, Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati is sweating on the availability of ace goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza and playmaker Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze.

Both players have not trained the whole week leading to the game due to foot injuries. Yesterday when quizzed on both players, manager coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati said they were monitoring the duo’s situation, but was quick to assure the club’s faithful that they would bring an equally competitive team for the crucial clash.

“There are injuries on ‘Pupu’ and ‘Nkomishi’ but we wait for the final fitness test to tell us their condition. However, we have assembled a strong squad that can compete any day,” he said.
When quizzed on how they felt going to the game after seeing one title contender Royal Leopard going down 2-0 to Matsapha United, he said they were focused on doing their own job.

“What we know is that we are the team to beat for anyone and we are ready for any challenge. We have new players who are adapting to the big stage, but the likes of Zola and Gondwe will be given a rare start to showcase their capabilities,” he said.

Last season, the correspondence fixture attracted much drama as Swallows won 1-0 at the Mavuso Sports Centre. Four players were red carded; two from each team following an on-pitch brawl that was diffused by the vigilant police officers at the stadium.

This afternoon, their game will be the main attraction given that already, giants like Royal Leopard have tasted defeat at the hands of ambitious rookies Matsapha United at the same venue on Friday night.
