MBABANE – Brace yourself for another transfer wrangle, as Darren ‘Dazza’ Christie edges closer to Matsapha United camp.

The want-away Manzini Sundowns skipper has found himself at the centre of a serious transfer saga, as Sundowns’ Mark Carmichael yesterday said that they will only clear the player to a team of his choice once he has submitted a transfer request.

He said at the moment, the player, who is out of contract with the ‘Kappa Boys’, had not met or informed them about his move, except to tell them that he was going to further his studies. “Until he makes a transfer request, we cannot clear him, and even if he does, we will have to inform his former club Mbabane Swallows out of respect because they are the ones who loaned the player to us three seasons ago,” he said.

On the other side, his suitors Matsapha United have also disclosed that they were in talks with Manzini Sundowns, a team that currently held the player’s registration certificate. The player was due to start training with Matsapha United on Wednesday, and club official Sifiso Shongwe, who stood in for PRO Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini, said his team was pretty much interested in the flying winger.

Mbabane Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane was reluctant to comment on the matter, opting to say that his team had a standing agreement with Manzini Sundowns over the player.
The player, when contacted once again yesterday could not comment on the issue.

The player was released on loan in the 2014/15 season to Sundowns, where he helped them to the semi-finals of the SwaziBank in March 2015. His team beat Mbabane Swallows 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Mark Carmichael said his team would not stand in the player’s way and that his departure would pave way for youngsters to shine. “We have lost a couple of senior players, but we do have capable young players who are ready to fill the boots,” he said. The player has been assured warm welcome at the Deep Blue Ocean.
