MALKERNS – You have done it before and you can do it now. This quote by Ralph Marston might always be ringing on fitness enthusiast and Nkoyoyo-based soldier, Mzamo Mavuso’s head. After yesterday’s Swazi Cross-Fit event, which was staged at Malkerns Country Club for the first time, the 34-year-old tightened his grip on the title with a record time of 08:44 minutes. Even though results were yet to be released by last night, it was gathered that Mavuso’s time was unmatched again.

Mavuso said regular weightlifting, push-ups, and jogging kept him in shape for Swaziland’s exciting fitness competition.
“I have no special diet, but I avoid sugary stuff ahead of the competition.
“To recover, I just rest for two days,” said the daring soldier.

The cross-fit challenge is an addition to the Swazi Warrior Challenge. It involves enduring about five power exercises in not more than 20 minutes for men. For women, it is 25 minutes.
The competitors were required to repeatedly do seven power exercises that included flipping a pole with a 60kg head. Other exercises were the power slide, 25kg bag toss, medicine ball sit-ups, explosive jumps and farmer’s walk.
In the regular warrior fitness events, there are about 20 separate obstacles.

Both women and men survived yesterday’s obstacles. Flipping the pole proved a challenge for some ladies. Previous events were staged in Simunye, where Mavuso repeatedly proved invincible.
