MBABANE – Future women’s football stars will be nurtured as 10 schools converge tomorrow in a National Football Association (NFAS) powered initiative.

This event dubbed the NFAS Schools’ Championships will take place at Enjabulweni Sports Ground in Manzini. The Schools’ Women’s Football Development Programme is a three-year programme that was implemented last year, 2016.

The NFAS started by empowering Sports teachers of schools that have Girls’ Football Teams by facilitating football coaching and administration courses done during school holidays. After completing these courses, the participants were certified with the NFAS Coaching License D.

The 2017 NFAS Schools’ Women’s Football Development Programme has showed some signs of growth, as in 2016, a total of six zones participated in this football development programme with a total of 24 schools.

This reflected a total of 384 girls participating in these championships. In 2017, 10 zones participated with a total of 38 schools reflecting 608 girls participating in this year’s championships.
The top two schools in each zone qualified for the regional championships. The same format applied for the regional championships in as far as the national championship is concerned.
