MBABANE – The country once again stood tall in the ongoing FINA World Championships as swimmer Mark Hoare clocked his personal best in 100m freestyle.

The 21-year-old, who was making his third appearance in the World Championships, clocked 57:38 seconds to finish fifth out of nine swimmers. Winning the event was Abdalla Mohamed A Aboughazala from Qatar on 55:67 seconds.

Robyn Young finished seventh in the women’s 50m backstroke on 35:46 seconds, while the winner was Monica Ramirez Abella on 30:96 seconds. Young’s campaign in the championships ended yesterday as it was her last event. Tomorrow the duo of Simanga Dlamini and Mark Hare will be competing in their last events. The swimmers’ coach Welcome Nhlabatsi said the athletes did well under the circumstances and their performance was good.

“Robyn Young had a challenge with her start as she slipped and that affected her performance. She is still young and she is among the swimmers here in this competition. She still has the future in her and this is the beginning,” he said.
