MBABANE – To the Mbabane Highlanders faithful, the return of striker Mfanufikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze is good news but it could come at a huge cost as the club is now struggling to reach agreements with four of its top players.

The team’s contractual talks with its captain Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze, winger Mphucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini, defender Sibusiso ‘Sbura’ Dlamini and midfielder Sibusiso Mkhonta, have hit a snag. It has transpired from close sources to the club that the quartet is not contracted to the black and white giants to date.

“The four players have not signed new contracts and it will stay like this until the directors meet their terms. They have not agreed to sign based on what was put to them instead they believe the directors paid good signing-on fees to new teammates ‘Fash’ and ‘Mlaba’ so they want to be treated the same way,” a source said.

One official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the positive was that all the players were respectfully attending training while talks continued but it is clear that ‘Fash’ getting a Honda Fit sedan reasonably gave the impression that he got a very good signing-on fee. “It’s best to say I have no contract currently and I know my other three teammates also have none but it’s all on the negotiation table,” said one of the players when questioned about the situation and the fact that they wanted at least E30 000 each signing-on fees and improved salaries.

Another player simply responded; “I haven’t signed anything for now.”
Asked about the signing-on fee issue and the allegation that they expected to be treated similarly as their new teammates and also afford cars, they laughed and diplomatically said they were ready to commit but not until they reached agreements with the directors if they do.
