MBABANE – “Catch them young.” These were comments by National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President who was represented by Vice President Comfort Shongwe.

He made these remarks yesterday during the Knox Thumbumuzi Knockout prize presentation held at Sigwaca House. These comments by Shongwe come after Sihlangu players confided to the Times Sports Desk that they were starving. The players reportedly were given macaroni, among other meals, which did not satisfy them.

“We want a situation where we teach these young upcoming football stars about football development at a tender age. We also want teach them about the right diet for footballers which will enhance their performance in the field of play. We can’t afford players at national team level complaining about starving when they are given the right diet,” Shongwe said. He further thanked the sponsor, Cabumuzi Dlamini, for the kind gesture.

“When commend Dlamini for choosing to sponsor a junior tournament. We hope more young people and other companies will join hands for the development of football at grassroots level. Soccer does not only unite people but it also creates friendships and I urge the teams partaking to take advantage of the opportunity and use it wisely,” Shongwe added.

He further applauded the Swaziland Olympic Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) for gracing these games.
“We also want to thank SOCGA who I am told were attending these games and they taught the players on anti-doping. The Royal Swaziland Police also came on board and gave lessons on dangers of drugs and crime.
