MBABANE – Correctional Services runner Nkululeko Gama did not only win gold in the Mbabane Parkrun but also managed to set a new record.

Gama who missed the last two runs due to other competitive races he partook in, resurfaced yesterday to record his second victory in this weekly race. He was the winner of the seventh edition clocking an impressive 16:18 minutes.
This time around, he proved a little bit faster than before as he clocked a time of 15:34 minutes, a 1:24 minutes difference. Worth noting is that the numbers had dropped this time from 139 last week to 92 yesterday.
The 5km parkrun always starts and ends at the Mbabane Club.

Speaking after the race, Gama said he was getting closer to achieving his personal target of finishing the 5km race in 15 minutes.
“I am getting there and I am happy with my performance today (yesterday). I am positive that next week I will achieve my target,” Gama said.
Asked on how he trains and what motivates him, Gama said running long distances in the outskirts of the capital city has helped him on endurance.

“I make sure I run twice a day which is early in the morning and in the evening. I cover a distance of over 10km. Coming on the motivation part, running is my hobby and I always strive to compete against myself,” he added.
He was closely followed by another Correctional Services athlete Thabo Dlamini, who clocked 20:41 minutes and Avite Mbabazi on the third spot on 21:12 minutes.
Thembisile Zwane reigned supreme in the ladies category, finishing at 26:54 minutes ahead of Ane Mary Duarte who clocked at 32:23 minutes, while Anna Beneus came third on 33:19 minutes.
