MORULENG – A tactically malnourished national team, Sihlangu Semnikati has experienced dark days on the international stage, but here last night, the nation’s pride froze like rabbits in front of the headlights of an oncoming truck as they bowed out even in the semi-final of the Plate section of the COSAFA Castle Cup.

Operating in little islands of individual; and futile endeavour with no structure, no co-ordination or any basic passing technique, Sihlangu were beaten by the ‘Desert Warriors’ of Namibia, who had five Premier Soccer League (PSL) players in their starting line-up, by a solitary goal to bow out of the tournament with zero points, zero win and a forgettable one goal by striker Felix Badenhorst. Namibia will now face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the finals of the Plate section, which in reality is the poor man’s COSAFA Castle Cup contested by teams knocked out in the real tournament quarter-final stage. Namibia will take on Bafana here at the modest Moruleng Stadium in the Plate Cup final on Friday.

After winning a bronze medal in last year’s tournament, under the tutelage of local coach, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, the team has seemingly retrogressed under the Belgian coach who is now under immense pressure to win next Friday’s CHAN first leg clash against Zambia’s Chipolopolo at home and the second leg in a week’s time in Lusaka. Even by his shocking low standards, De Jongh’s starting line-up, was bizarre. De Jongh spent the night firing unprintable expletives on the direction of match officials, than directing his own team which floundered about like a bunch of blind mice.
