MBABANE – The court battle between Manzini Wanderers and the PLS has come with dire consequences for the hub giants.

The club, which has taken both the Premier League of Swaziland PLS and SPTC to court because of last season’s withheld Charity Cup prize, will for the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2002 miss out on this year’s edition slated for August 27.

Our sources have disclosed that the decision was taken by the tournament’s three Board of Governors meeting held this week.
“The decision is now final, Manzini Wanderers have been excused from the tournament pending the court case. But there will still be four teams who will include the defending champions Royal Leopard. The other three will be announced during the launch on Saturday (tomorrow),” one of the sources said.

However, there are already indications that Mbabane Swa

llows and Mbabane Highlanders would feature by virtue of being among the most followed clubs in the country. The tournament raked in about E600 000 in gate collections last season.

Another source said the decision was taken in the interest of corporate governance and that it would have been a bad precedence to have the team in the tournament while the court case was continuing.

PLS COO Petros Vilakati when quizzed on the matter, said he was waiting for a briefing from the PLS Chairman Victor Gamedze who sat in the meeting for the three Board of Governors that also comprised of SPTC Managing Director Petros Dlamini and FA President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa.
