MBABANE – Platinum Stars did Mbabane Swallows a huge favour by holding Tunisian side CS Sfaxien 1-all in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The result all but threw Group B of the competition currently topped by Algerian top side MC Alger, wide open.
Dikwena, as the Royal Bafokeng bankrolled South African side is affectionately called, looked on course for 1-0 win when Bongi Ntuli headed home a Sphiwe Mnguni’s cross two minutes before the hour mark. However, the lead was cancelled out by Hannachi with 15 minutes before full-time.

The result has placed Mbabane Swallows clash against CS Sfaxien next week Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium a must win for the Thabo Koki Vilakati coached side, if they still harbour any chances of progressing to the semi-finals. In fact, the reality now is that Swallows qualification into the last 8 was in their hands as long as they collect maximum points in their next two games.

However, to ensure qualification, they would have to beat Sfaxien by a two-goal margin to advance on head to head if they tied up on points.
Swallows lost 1-2 to MC Alger on Tuesday night, and even before the Platinum Stars against Sfaxien clash, boss Victor Gamedze had already stated that his team was pretty in the race for qualification to the next stage. Last night former Swallows coach Nyanga Hlophe who is currently at Manzini Wanderers, said the Beautiful Birds should take each game as it comes and seize the opportunity provided, following Platinum Stars draw last night.
