MBABANE – History books were written anew as Lubombo Eastern Zone ensemble Young Zebras beat Super League side Equator FC to clinch the inaugural Lubombo FA E70 000 Knock-out Cup in a tightly contested final played at Mayaluka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The game which was watched by throngs of fooball lovers including Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala lived up to its billing as both sides demonstrated a high level of determination when going forward.
In the early stages of the game both teams were cautious but it was Zebras who created scoring chances on their attacks but failed to convert.

They were threatening on their attacks while Equator were forced to defend for a prolonged period, allowing their opponents to play the ball. Both teams wasted a host of scoring chances in the first half. As the game gained momentum Equator regrouped  and made threatening moves in their build up, using the wings to attack. Equator’s Sicelo Mpungose missed a golden opportunity in the 34th minute as he received a pass from Sabelo Matsebula and with goalkeeper to beat, he missed the target .

Two minutes later Zebras were on attack as  Sibonginkosi Sifundza  broke free but his attempt was saved by the impressive Equator goalkeeper.

Equator looked set to take the lead in the 39th when Kwanele Dlamini’s shot hit the woodwork after he connected a pass from Sabelo on the right flank. The first half ended 0-0.
