MBABANE – After coming ever so close last year to the country’s maiden AFCON Cup finals in Gabon, making it to the 2019 finals in Cameroon would take nothing but a miracle.

This is the assertion of influential Mbabane Swallows and Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman, Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze. Gamedze is head of Sihlangu Task team.

“Sihlangu is performing well. Chances to qualify for 2019 AFCON are there and not. If we want to qualify, we need to budget just for that not one to play in the qualifiers only. The squad needs to have about five coaches, trainers and medical doctors if we seriously want to qualify and I can tell you that E5 million cannot take us there,” Gamedze responded in reaction to the squad’s away draw and its chances on national radio yesterday.

He insisted that he had always been calling for football and its stakeholders as well Swazis who had a passion for the game to come together and join hands to help achieve this dream.
“There is a lot involved to qualify for these big tournaments and there must be incentives for the players as they must also understand the importance of the AFCON Cup.  Players are more about just playing without understanding how important qualifying is so incentives must be there as well,” he said.

He even said usually, it was them as football administrators who always understood the significance of qualifying such that when things go well they tend to enjoy that smile more than the players.
