LOBAMBA – It is two points lost but a vital point gained according to Sihlangu assistant coach Anthony Mdluli.

It was a bitter-sweet start for the ‘nation’s pride’ in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, affording a goalless draw away in Niamey, Niger under scorching 39 Degrees Celsius temperatures. The game served as new Coach Pieter de Jongh’s first official assignment and is mandated to lead Sihlangu to the 2019 AFCON finals to be staged in Cameroon.

Sihlangu returned home just before noon yesterday through the Ngwenya Border Gate. Mdluli said the team’s 11 points target in the qualifying campaign was very much in sight, despite the crippling draw in Niamey.

“It’s a vital point and we played well as a team. The target remains 11 points,” Mdluli who spoke on behalf of De Jongh said upon arrival.
Sihlangu and Niger are in Group J of the qualifying campaign alongside African football powerhouses Tunisia and Egypt.
