LOBAMBA – While other athletes would be travelling by road, local sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi bolt’ Matsenjwa would fly to Zimbabwe for the CAA Southern Region Championships.

This means the 14-member team with the exception of ‘Swazi bolt’ will travel over 1 000 km and spend over 20 hours during the trip to Harare Stadium, where the championships will be held while Matsenjwa will only spend an hour and 30 minutes. He will leave today from King Mswati III International Airport to connect a flight from OR Tambo International Airport to Harare. The other delegation led by Athletes Association of Swaziland (AAS), Secretary General Thoba Mazibuko, left the country yesterday for Zimbabwe. The regional competitions will run from Saturday and end on Sunday.

Swaziland Olympic Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) CEO, Muriel Hofer, said only Matsenjwa was eligible to the carding system which comes with lot of benefits. She made these remarks during the farewell function held at OlympAfrica Centre yesterday.
“Well this is what is called the carding system, which all of you are entitled to if you up your game. You should not get jealous of him because he will be flying to Zimbabwe while you travel by road, instead work hard to reach his level,” said Hofer.

Hofer further wished all the athletes a safe journey to the championships.
“The carding system is targeted at high performing athletes in the country and it needs one to work extra hard and be disciplined to reach that entry point,” said Hofer.
Meanwhile, AAS President Gideon Mthembu urged the athletes to hoist the country flag high.

“We expect you guys to come with medals home, the time for adding numbers is over, we believe you are capable of that, please do us proud and be on your best behaviour,” said Mthembu. Swaziland National Sports and Recreational Council (SNSRC) CEO, Darius Dlomo said they were optimistic the athletes would live to the nation’s expectations.
