MANZINI – It’s all twists and turns in the George Hotel Singles Pool League as a new leader has emerged after Saturday’s games.

Mandla Mamba, whose reign at the top had lasted for the past three weeks, gave it all up this weekend when he lost his matches to surrender his position to Police College star player Sifiso Dlamini.
The games were in progress at the George Hotel, which forked out E10 000 for this third edition and Mamba, who had four games on the day, was just outplayed.

However, as they say that the fall of one man is the rise of another, Dlamini found himself at the top after losing once to Sicelo Langwenya with a 6-4 scoreline and then won 6-2 against Mamba, who dropped to third on 15 points, three behind the leader.

In second place is Menzi Ngomane, who also contributed to the fall of Mamba at the summit and is level on points with Dlamini. Going into this weekend’s games, Ngomane could find himself at the top if he wins and Dlamini, who has played a game more, drops points.

In another match, Vusi Masilela outplayed Siyabonga Mndzebele to a 6-2 win. Masilela went on to play against Mamba and beat him 6-4.
Not every scheduled match was played on the day; in particular all those that involved Flag Nxumalo, the highlight being that against father Hamilton, also renowned as ‘Waga’. It was explained by Masilela that Flag was currently in preparations for the Correctional Services Day.

The league’s coordinator, Vusi Masilela, confirmed the results but said the full package coming with log standings would be released today.
