MBABANE – Stars of junior golfer Arvy Shongwe shine brightly in the United States of America.

The gifted golfer, who was awarded a scholarship to pursue his golf career in US’ Eastern Wyoming College is joint top in the Region IX team golf standings following continued dominance with his Lancers golf side in tournaments against their counterparts. According to a correspondence from the college’s Senior Administrative Assistant, Kim Jones, Shongwe was ranked fourth in the individual standings.
“In the Region IX individual golf standings for the year, Walch finished in first place, Shongwe in fourth, Torres-Ruiz in fifth and Shaw in seventh.  Walch and Shongwe were first Team All Region IX,” disclosed Jones.

Shongwe’s team just concluded their flawless season at the final tournament held in Riverton last Thursday.  Due to bad weather, the event was a one-day, 18-hole round tournament.  They won with a score of 314.
“The Lancers won the Region IX standings and are preparing for Nationals which will be held at the Buffalo Dunes golf course in Garden City, KS on May 16-19,” said Jones.

Coach, Zach Smith was elated by the performance of Arvy and his teammates following the historic win in the District, which is made up of community colleges in Region IX and the Arizona.
“This is the first time in Lancer Golf history that we have had a player win the District title,” Smith was quoted.
The 20-year-old, who represented the country at Region V championship hosted in the past year, is expected in Swaziland before the end of the next month.
