MANZINI – The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Louise Martin yesterday surprised New Hope House Centre when she gave them Borobi as a present.

Borobi, the surfing koala, is the official mascot for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held next April in Gold Coast, Australia.
The president handed this present yesterday at New Hope Centre and it was received by the organisation’s Director, Dr Elizabeth Hynd.
This was during the Queen’s Baton Relay, which started at OlympAfrica Development Centre before making a stop at the New Hope Centre Hall and Clinic. The baton, which has a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, also passed through Mahlanya, Gables, Ezulwini before returning to OlympAfrica Centre.

On her welcome speech at the New Hope Centre, Martin highlighted that she was grateful to be in the country.
“Swaziland is a beautiful kingdom and the people are so welcoming and friendly. I am honoured to be among you. Mine is to travel around the communities throughout the country in a bid to connect people and share the celebration of the baton. I have a present for the New Hope Centre, a Borobi, which is the official mascot for the Commonwealth Games,” said Martin. New Hope Centre Director Dr Hynd thanked the president.

“We are grateful to receive such a huge present. This means alot to us as a centre and we are honoured to have you in our midst as a representative from the Commonwealth Games. Indeed, we can feel the hype, which the Queen’s Baton is making and we are grateful that we have been chosen to be part of this event,” said Hynd.
