LOBAMBA – In the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III and over 8 000 fans, newcomers Matsapha United were disappointing as Young Buffaloes were crowned SwaziBank Cup 2017 champions.

This was at the Somhlolo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon where the King joined throngs of fans to witness the final which Buffaloes won 2-0 against First Division League leaders Matsapha United. Buffaloes are now E1 million richer as the new champions, taking over from Mbabane Swallows who won it last year. They will further get an additional E50 000 if they decide to go to the CAF Confederation Cup next year.

The runners-up will take home E400 000 while semi-finalists Manzini Wanderers and Mbabane Highlanders will each receive E100 000. Fast forward to the game, it was a game played under fine weather as temperatures were down to the point that by second half it was completely cloudy and chilly. However, this did not deter the crowd, especially Young Buffaloes who made things easier by scoring two first half goals.

Buffaloes struck through a troublesome Sifiso ‘General’ Mazibuko in the 20th, with a stinging shot into the far bottom corner of the net. What a strike, the Matsapha keeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala dived for nothing but could have done a lot better! Mazibuko was also deservedly named Man of the Match while the keeper was substituted early in the second half.

Striker Phiwa Dlamini made it 2-0 in the 39th, with a weak ground shot from a free kick at the edge of the box which the keeper spilled into own net.
