LOBAMBA – Just when their chances for a top four finish were looking gloomy, Moneni Pirates’ Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane pounced to keep them in the race.

The senior defender and former skipper was at the right place at the right time to give his team the full points yesterday against Midas Mbabane City at the Somhlolo National Stadium.

This was during an MTN Premier League game which looked set for a draw but Simelane was on target in the 90th.
He received a defence splitting pass from midfielder Xolani Ngwenya unmarked inside the box, controlled, turned and unleashed a grass cutter into the far post and that was it.

Three minutes were added but it proved too little for City to make amends as referee Letticia Viana blew for full-time.
Pirates are chasing a top four finish but need their hub rivals Manzini Wanderers to drop points against Mbabane Swallows in a later game yesterday.
Midas City who needed to seal their top eight spot had all the chances in the first-half but their star striker Simanga Shongwe had no luck.

He nearly put City ahead in the 4th minute when he got behind the defence but his looped effort was just inches over the bar, with keeper Thabiso Mkhize well beaten.
Shongwe was back again in the 33rd but his low diving header from a right wing cross by Njabulo ‘Magwegwe’ Magagula took a reflex save from Mkhize to parry it out before Mncedisi Dlamini cleared back into play.

A few minutes later he turned defender Menzi Simelane on the left but still had two others in front of him, he was forced to a long range effort that went wide.
City continued to pose a threat but the game got boring in the last 10 minutes of the half, including five for stoppage time.
