LOBAMBA – A determination to conquer the scorching heat, bumpy pitch and off-the-field intimidation in Congo Brazzaville is visibly driving Mbabane Swallows as they prepare to face AC Leopards.

Mbabane Swallows, the country’s sole representative in CAF club competitions, are already itching for Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup first leg. They are not disheartened by messages of pity that are thrown at them by those who have seen or heard about the Leopards side that has reached both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup group stages in recent years.

Swallows, according to coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, top striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali Ndzinisa and ace goalkeeper Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza, are being propelled by the opportunity to rewrite history books by becoming the first Swazi team to reach the group stages of a CAF club competition. “We are training in this surface because it is bumpy and it prepares us for what we should expect in Congo. We have done our research and even the tactics we are doing are solely to assist us adapt on and off the pitch,” ‘Koki’ said.

‘Nkomishi’,  who will be making his second visit in Congo as he was part of the Sihlangu team that lost 3-1 in 2011 during the 2012  AFCON qualifiers, said he has shared his rough experiences in Brazzaville.
