MANZINI – Friends and relatives of Mbabane Swallows fan, Linda ‘Sithawula’ Tsela, who is alleged to have stabbed a soccer fan during a Buganu drinking session, were in tears yesterday when the court issued an order that he be sent back to jail.

Tsela, who was clad in a grey MVA-brandedT-shirt and jeans, was the last person to appear in the court’s roll at the Matsapha Circuit Court. When he first appeared, the prosecution stood down his matter as the condition of the complainant, Mandla Shongwe, he is alleged to have stabbed, had not been ascertained.

Public Prosecutor Fakazi Mngomezulu requested an officer to enquire from the arresting officers if the complainant had been discharged from the RFM Hospital, however, there was no response. The unavailability of such information relating to the complainant’s condition forced the court to remand Tsela  in custody until today. Holding back tears, Tsela raised his hand and informed the court that he had been informed that Shongwe was actually discharged from the said hospital on Monday.

"Nkosi yenkantolo, ngiva batsi simangali siphume esibhedlela ngeMsombuluko sesisekhaya," loosely translated, ‘Your Worship, I have been told that the complainant was discharged from hospital on Monday and is now recuperating at home,' Tsela said, in an unstable voice. However, Magistrate Mthokozisi Dlamini informed Tsela that the court only relied on information provided by the prosecution. “Come back tomorrow accused person, the prosecution has informed the court that it has no idea whether the complainant has been discharged from hospital or not,” the magistrate said.
