MBABANE – The country’s fastest man Sibusiso ‘SwaziBolt’ Matsenjwa has done it again.

The 30-year-old has slashed the national record in 200 metres from 20:63 to 20:60 seconds.
The improved time was recorded at the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) Championships at BestMed Tuks Stadium in South Africa on Saturday.

The record, which has just tumbled, was set at the Rio Olympics in Brazil last year.
The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) sprinter did not only celebrate an improved time over the weekend, but also ranked third while racing with South Africa’s ‘big guns’ in Akani Simbine and Clarence Munyai, who finished first and second in 19:95 and 20:10 seconds, respectively.

Simbine broke the South African record in 100 metres with a time of 9.89 seconds last year. Munyai, on the other hand, competed in the men’s 200 metres at the 2016 Olympics. He finished third in his heat with a time of 20.66 seconds.
Matsenjwa, who further boasts a national record of 10:38 seconds in 100 metres, was over the moon on leaving a mark, stressing on the need to keep on shining on the synthetic track.
“It feels great. I hope it is a start of good things to come this year,” said Matsenjwa.

The biggest event set to feature the lanky sprinter in 2017 is the World Championships in London. They get underway on August 5. If he fails to clock the 20:44 seconds qualifying time, he is set to get a slot through a ‘wild card’.
Meanwhile, the AGN Championships are made up of several events, which started over a month ago. Some of the region’s best runners take part.
