MBABANE – “Money cannot compensate a lost soul.” These were the words directed to Royal Leopard and Sihlangu player, Machawe Dlamini by the Mbabane Principal Magistrate, Fikile Nhlabatsi, after she found him guilty of culpable homicide yesterday.

Nhlabatsi said these words after Dlamini (24) of Nkhanini  had informed the court that he assisted the family of the late Sikhumbuzo Khumalo with money amounting to more than E10 000 to cater for his funeral.

Khumalo (35) of Malkerns was certified dead upon arrival at the Mbabane Government Hospital where he was rushed after he was knocked down by a Toyota corolla registered KSD436BM driven by Dlamini near KaLafaro at Lobamba.

He said apart from the financial assistance he offered to the deceased’s family, he a lent a helping hand during the funeral arrangement.
He also confessed that he did not stop to ascertain the extent of the deceased’s injuries after the accident. Instead, he said he drove to the Lobamba Police Station to report it.

The doctor’s report that was presented before court as part of the evidence reflected that the late Khumalo sustained serious injuries which made the court believe that Dlamini was driving at a high speed.
“The extent of the injuries suggest that you were driving at a high speed, isn’t it?” asked Nhlabatsi. In response, Dlamini said he was not driving at a high speed.
Dlamini was also charged with driving the motor vehicle on a public road without a driver’s licence. He confirmed that he did not have a driver’s licence when asked.
