LOBAMBA – Botswana’s CAF Confederation Cup envoys Orapa came so near yet so far to breaking the 27-game unbeaten run for Mbabane Swallows but not when the Premier, Football Association and nation expected a win at Somhlolo National Stadium.

A relieved Swallows boss Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, acknowledging the tough second leg win as they had to come from behind twice before midfielder Papy Kabamba wrapped it all up at the death. Gamedze said losing was out of the question.
“We’ve played tough games domestically but today Orapa, despite having no game plan, gave us, our fans and supporting Swazis a big scare. It’s a big and hard fought result for us and the country which was expected by the PM, Cabinet and nation. Orapa boast Botswana’s best players but we managed to beat them.

“Had we lost, we would have disappointed the PM and every Swazi as well as all the Swazis and fans who came out to support us. We had to do it at all costs and now we can look forward to the next game,” he said. He said Orapa were lucky not to concede a rain of goals here as they missed a host of chances but they were better than at home where Swallows dominated them more. He further passed his utmost gratitude to the National Football Association of Swaziland where he is also vice president.

“The FA has invested so much into the teams in CAF and the results are fruits of the financial backing we’re getting from them. They don’t have much money but it is not about that instead the love they have for teams,” he said.
He also said His Majesty’s government was also giving its best support through Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, adding that he was hopeful that CAF Champions League representatives Royal Leopard would also overturn the 1-0 deficit away at AS Vita this afternoon in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Swallows go to Tanzania next month before the second leg a week later against Azam.
