MBABANE – Royal Leopard senior players are ready to shrug off their current poor form and take the AS Vita bull by its horns tomorrow.

Captain Barry Steenkamp and Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo have both conceded that the timing of the clash against the feared Democratic Republic of Congo DRC giants was not good, considering their insipid domestic form.

Steenkamp said with or without internal issues at the club, they had a responsibility to fight for the country’s flag which is at stake.
“Our form started to dip last year even before we lost Mthunzi to AS Vita, but we have to lift ourselves up and understand the significance of the match to the team and country. Our preparations are continuing well and even though we cannot boldly say that we will progress, we need to work hard and try to win,” he said.

‘Mlilo’ said they had to master the opposition’s system of play and try to hurt them where it matters most.
“They know from the past experience that we are also dangerous at home. They will try to unsettle us with an early goal, which we should prevent. But we can also benefit from scoring early to boost our confidence,” he said.

He said they were unfazed by the presence of former teammate Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo and Felix Badenhorst at AS Vita.
“They will try to inform their team about how we play, but the bottom line is that we will be a closed book to them. We should not worry about Felix and ‘Xavi’, but focus on the task at hand,” he said.
