‘BIRDS’ IN WORLD’S TOP 1 000

MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows are breaking many records than plates these days.


The capital city giants became the first Swazi team to be ranked by Netherlands based website, clubworldrankings.com and are perched on the 924th spot.


The website, clubworldrankings.com, was founded in 2010.The statistics were released on Monday.
The ranking is based on weighted match results over the past 52 weeks.


Interestingly, the ‘Birds’ are the only team in Swaziland which has ever appeared in the rankings which has the best 973 clubs in the world. They have amassed 97 points.


Worthy of note is that ‘Umkhonto KaShaka’s last year’s CAF Confederation opponents, Rwanda’s APR, are ranked on 902 while Royal Leopard’s CAF champions’ league opponent AS Vita are ranked 722 with Mazembe ranked 724.

The Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati led charges’  will face Botswana’s Orapa United who are not recognised by the website.
Topping the charts are Spain’s Real Madrid while Barcelona are second. Completing the top five bracket are Spain’s Athletico Madrid, Germany giants Bayern Munich and Sevilla from Spain.


Noteworthy is that English giants in Manchester City are ranked 19th while Liverpool are positioned at 21 with Manchester United at 22.
Current  EPL leaders Chelsea are at 48 while Arsenal are at 30.
In Africa, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are ranked 106 while the two Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are ranked 635 and 642, respectively.
