DRESSING ROOMS CLOSED AT SOMHLOLO

MBABANE – The Somhlolo National Stadium dressing rooms will be a no go area for this weekend’s MTN League games.

The decision follows the closure of a part of the stadium as a result of the damage caused by the heavy storms that swept through on Tuesday and Wednesday.

This means that clubs for tomorrow’s double-header will not have access to the facilities, and would instead use the open area behind the No Man’s land as a card-checking point and use the very same tunnel on the eastern side of the stadium to walk into the pitch. Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala said while the stadium would be open for use by teams, the whole building housing the dressing rooms and conference area was out of bounds.

“The experts from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport have closed the facility damaged by the rains. They are still going to assess the damage to see how much it will cost to repair it.  But the stadium is available for use and clubs said they would use the open area on the eastern side of the stadium, because it was once used during the upliftment of the dressing rooms some years back,” he said. Meanwhile, Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Petros Vilakati could only confirm that weekend games scheduled at the venue would continue.

“We did not attend the meeting in the morning as football was represented by the FA CEO, but we are aware that games will continue, including the Y’ello Sunday. However, the dressing rooms remain closed,” he said. Vilakati said they have already met the hosting clubs for the weekend on the logistics of the games.
