MBABANE – The Coronation Park Court will be a hive of activity when ‘The Beat Goes On’ basketball tourney kicks off on Friday.

The third edition of the three-day tournament is hosted by Mbabane Jazz basketball team, where a total of eight teams usually partake.
Jazz senior player Lwazi Mchobokazi said teams interested to partake will pay E500 as registration fee.

“We already have more than five teams which have registered for this tournament which includes SuperStars, Titans, Steels, Mbabane Knicks,  Mbabane Raptors and Imbube, and other teams are showing interest.

“In the ladies category Jazz Ladies, Mbabane Superstars and UNISWA’s Hawks have confirmed their participation,” said Mchobokazi.
The player said they were hoping that the weather would be favourable on the weekend as they would be staging the tournament outdoors.

“Well, we are still to organise an alternate venue if eventually we have a wet weekend as predicted by the weather department.
“We were considering Waterford but unfortunately, they are closed so we are still finalising anothe venue,” added Mchobokazi.
He further revealed that they were in talks with a potential sponsor for the tournament.

“We cannot reveal the name of the sponsor for now but talks are at an advanced stage. They have shown a major interest in promoting the sport of basketball,” he said.

Jazz were champions last year and they took home the E4 000 first prize. The tournament will be played in a round robin system whereafter the two best teams from the two groups will go to the semi-finals in the male section, while in the ladies category games will be played in a point system format.
