NHLANGANO – The name Gabriel is biblically associated with a trusted God’s angel who brings good news to His people.

However, Gabriel Goshen of Tambuti FC was the player whose angelic strike in extra-time snuffed the life out of the faltering giants as they crashed out of the lucrative Ingwenyama Cup at the same stage last season.

In fact, with the club’s performance having been significantly insipid of late, it has literally thrown the victory-starved ‘Black Bull’ family into a sad state of insomnia.

The pain in their hearts is surely not only about crashing out of the cup, but it is about the continued run of poor results for the club, three months after the resignation albeit under duress of former Chairman Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane.

Not that they went to the game as favourites, when considering their last Sunday’s 2-3 defeat at the hands of the an equally not so convincing Royal Leopard, but there was always a ray of hope especially after forcing the game into extra-time with a late penalty from Menzi Sithole.
It was not to be as a long range strike from Gabriel Goshen sealed a well deserved win for Tambuti against Mbabane Highlanders in the drama-filled Ingwenyama Cup quarterfinals played at King Sobhuza Memorial Stadium yesterday.

Tambuti, despite losing the last match 4-0 against the capital city giants in the league in October, were confident, and took the game to the Hebert Maruwa-coached side. Suffice to that they had five shots on target as they laid siege on Highlanders’ danger zone.

In one of their attempts, burly Ugochukwe Ohakwe unleashed a rasping shot that shaved the upright 15 minutes into the game. The black and white ensemble were off the hook again when Zwakele Dlamini fluffed a glorious chance after coming face to face with goalkeeper Sidumo Vilakati, but froze inside the danger zone, until he was dispossessed.
