MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers have withdrawn their participation in the Mpumalanga Transversal Cup.

The local giants decided against playing in the one day tournament as they are preparing for the MTN Premier League kick-off.
Both teams received invitation to participate in the tournament and it was Mbabane Swallows who confirmed their presence.
Mbabane Swallows acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana confirmed yesterday that due to a tight scheduled, they had to withdraw from the tournament.

“It was going to be a good preseason for us but due to the busy scheduled, we have to send our apologies to the organisers. We are no longer going to play in the tournament,” he said. Swallows played South Africa’s giants Orlando Pirates in the 2012 edition where they lost 4-1 at Mbombela Stadium.

Manzini Wanderers General Manager Patrick Gamedze said they did not confirm the invitation as they were preparing for the start of the season. “We appreciate the invitation but the team is now focused on the start of the season.
“It was going to be tough for the team to go and play in South Africa at this time of the season,” he said.

Both teams clashed on Sunday in the second semi-finals of the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup and Wanderers emerged 6-5 victors after penalties. Meanwhile, after the withdrawal of the local teams, AmaTuks quickly moved in to fill the space.
The three other teams in the cup are Mbombela United, Jomo Cosmos and Acornbush United. The one-day tournament will be played at Kamhlushwa Stadium.
