MBABANE – While the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) anticipates to kick off the MTN League, Mbabane Highlanders and Royal Leopard are scheduled to feature in the grand opening games next Sunday.

During the postponed PLS Annual General Meeting yesterday at Sigwaca House after a quorum could not be formed, it was hinted by the PLS Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze that champions Leopard and Highlanders needed not worry as they were definitely in the grand opening.
“We’re in talks with the sponsor but the proposed league date, even with the Board of Governors, is next weekend so that the national team players can get more practice ahead of the Malawi match,” explained Gamedze after the postponed meeting.

However, he made it clear that nothing was final for now but they would confirm everything next week as they intended to launch it midweek then have games on the weekend if all goes according to plan. Governors were also excited at the news of the league kick-off even though some felt it should start next month to avoid the breaks which affect teams not in knockouts.

Gamedze said the official position would be communicated next week. Manzini Sundowns Chairman Mark Carmichael said starting the league next weekend was a good idea that would also help expose some players who can be picked for national duty. The floor noted that if the games did not commence next week, it would mean the league starting on the weekend of September 16-17.
Sihlangu are in a must-win match against Malawi if they are to rekindle their hopes of a maiden AFCON finals appearance to be hosted by Gabon next January.
