MBABANE – Mbabane Midas City’s Director Polycarp Dlamini will be disappointed to learn that his nomination for a place in the PLS Executive Committee has been scrapped off.

He is the only nominated official who is missing in the list of nominees officially released by the PLS yesterday.
“That is the final list of nominees of the PLS Executive Committee elections next Thursday in the AGM,” confirmed PLS CEO John Mazibuko yesterday.

Those in the list are Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze, who returns unopposed for the position of Chairman he currently holds. Nominated for membership are; Manzini Sea Birds’ Sicelo Mkhonta, Midas City’s Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula (both outgoing), Royal Leopard’s Mxolisi Dlamini and Manzini Sundowns’ Mark Carmichael.
With the list out, a showdown is expected on elections day as the PLS Constitution is set to come under fire. Mazibuko admitted there was a thorny issue, especially where Midas City’s Polycarp and Magagula are concerned.

nominations

“Some decisions will be made during the AGM but right now, this is what we have for our nominations for the Executive Committee elections,” responded Mazibuko when asked who was Midas City’s Board of Governor between Polycarp and Magagula.
The PLS Constitution only provides for governors to qualify for the elections but if unattached to any club, the only way in is to be co-opted as two members are co-opted after the clubs have elected the four and chairman.
Mazibuko explained that currently, Magagula was the rightful Midas City Governor which is why he remained on the list of nominees for next Thursday. Asked on the correspondence from Midas City withdrawing him with Polycarp, Mazibuko said the outgoing Executive felt he could only become a governor after this AGM.
“It is true we have a correspondence of that nature but as I said, there stands to be a number of decisions to be made on the day of the AGM,” he said.

withdrawn

What is also clear is that if Magagula remains withdrawn by his club for Polycarp, both will not qualify to stand for the elections as per Article 7 of the PLS Constitution. The statute prohibits two members from one team sitting in the Executive Committee and those who sit must be attached to clubs as Governors.

Also, one must have served in the Board of Governors for four years to qualify, which Polycarp has not as his first year will be this season. However, this is not included in the constitution which could lead to a serious showdown in the elections.
