MBABANE – Royal Leopard want to boost their striking force by signing Zimbabwean striker Emmanuel Takawira.

The Harare City striker arrived in the country over the weekend and he made his debut for the police side during the practice match against South Africa’s National First Division League side Black Leopard.

Leopard won the practice match played at Somhlolo National Stadium 2-1, courtesy of goals by Zweli ‘Mlilo’ Nxumalo and Bonginkhosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini. Both goals were scored in the second half.

Royal Leopard PRO Frank Hurube said they were trying out the Zimbabwean player as they wanted to strengthen their squad. He said if the technical bench was impressed by his performance they would then start to negotiate for his signature.

Royal Leopard were without Machawe Dlamini, who is nursing a knee injury he suffered during the COSAFA Castle Cup semi-final match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. “We are also waiting for the arrival of our new signee Manzini Sundowns defender Phumlani Dlamini. He is expected to join the team ahead of the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup,” Hurube said.

The police side did not renew the contract of their DR Congo striker Richard Bazobwa. “Our preparations for the semi-final match against Mbabane Highlanders are right on track. The win against SA’s Black Leopards motivates the players. Before August 7, we will play maybe one or two games,” he said.

Leopard were drawn against Mbabane Highlanders, while Manzini Wanderers faces Mbabane Swallows in the semi-finals of the Charity Cup to be played on August 7 at Somhlolo National Stadium.
