MBABANE – People in the Lowveld will get into action next Saturday when the SNSRC hosts Shukuma Swaziland in Simunye.

The day will start with a 5km walk/ run, which is just a warm-up session ahead of the main events that include children’s athletics, tug of war, aerobics, and some of our indigenous games like umlabalaba, draft, chess and other fun games that go a long way in helping to reduce stress levels.
Shukuma is a concept developed by the Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle among people by regular exercise.

SNSRC Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane said yesterday that the people at Simunye and surrounding areas are in for a surprise, as they would witness what has never been seen before.
“As council, we are very grateful to our sponsors, the Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) for stepping up and partnering with us so as to make the Shukuma edition in Simunye an unforgettable experience for everyone who will be part of the day.

“By now, a majority of Swazis know what Shukuma is all about but I can promise the nation that the next edition of this important national initiative will be completely different. It will be something that has never been seen before,” Ntiwane said.

He declined to reveal the kind of surprises lined up for the participants, saying all would be made known on the day.
“I want to assure everyone that those with minor ailments will go home a healthier lot after the event because science has proven that an active body is a healthy one. With a healthy body, we can expect a healthy mind, which in turn ensures that there is a healthy community,” Ntiwane said.
He implored people to take part in the event to keep time.
