BLESSING FIRST SWAZI AT COMRADES MARATHON

MBABANE – Blessing Kunene was the first Swazi in Sunday’s Comrades Marathon, bagging one of two only silver medals in the legendary race.


Also on the silver was Swazi Slojos’ Ntokozo Mamba and to get a silver medal, an athlete has to run the marathon which is approximately 89 kilometres from Durban to Pietermarisburg in less than seven hours and 30 minutes.
Kunene runs for Zithandze Athletics Club.


Meanwhile, Dumisa Sibiya was the first Swazi amongst the Golden Foot Athletics Club to cross the finish line in the 2016 Comrades ultra marathon.
Sibiya who is based in South Africa clocked 7:46:47 hours to finish the 89:13km ultra marathon. Coming second was Musa Dlamini on 8:23:38 hours. The Golden Foot Athletics Club had sent over 25 athletes to the annual event that saw over 14 000 athletes world wise competing.


Golden Foot Club Secretary Gideon Mthembu said they were proud of all the athletes that travelled to attend the big marathon in the SADC region. He said they all did well and they were not all going to be winners.
