MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders captain Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze has withdrawn from the national team, Sihlangu.

The MTN League first round best player and top scorer, as per procedure, reported to camp at the National Football Association (FA) Technical Centre but only received his examination schedule yesterday.

‘Chocco’ is a student at Swaziland College of Technology (SCOT) and it is not the first time school work has barred him from national team activities.

The latest developments mean coach Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga has been left with 24 players to work with from the initial 26-man tentative squad announced two weeks ago after Royal Leopard striker Bonginkosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini was dropped due to injury. Democratic Republic of Congo based forward Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo is yet to link up with the rest of his national teammates.

Sihlangu are in full-time camp in readiness for next Sunday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier must-win match against Guinea and the COSAFA Castle Cup from June 11-25.

‘Chocco’s first paper is on June 6, a day after the Guinea home match billed for the Somhlolo National Stadium and has been excused from camp to concentrate on his studies.

The player confirmed the dates of his examinations when reached yesterday but said he was yet to report to the squad management when he reaches the Technical Centre.

‘Madze’ will travel with 20 players to Namibia, the host nation of the 2016 edition of the COSAFA Castle Cup as per the tournament rules.
