MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns have lost their protest against the PLS over the delayed kick-off of their MTN League match against Red Lions.

The hub side had lodged a protest before the start of the match, whose kick-off was delayed by over an hour. They eventually lost the game 0-2. The team wanted the game to be declared null and void citing that it was played outside the rules and regulations of the tournament, which states that the game should have been called off if 15 minutes after the scheduled kick-off time, match officials had not arrived.

However, before the FA Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Melusi Lukhele on Wednesday evening, the club lost the case at its preliminary stage after it was discovered that they had failed to attach evidence on their protest as per the rules.

Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Petros Vilakati could only confirm that the verdict was issued on the matter.
“The DC ruled that the applicant failed to meet the requirements of the protest by failing to attach evidence on the protest,” he said.

Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa also confirmed that they lost the case, but was quick to state that they had issued a notice to appeal the verdict.
“We lost it at the preliminary stage, and we feel that had it gone to the merits, we would have had a case. We are waiting for a written verdict so that we can approach the FA Appeals Board, as we feel we have grounds to be heard,” he said.

He said the club had requested to have the written verdict as soon as possible because they wanted to take the matter up before last week’s final games of the season.
