MBABANE – Sihlangu head coach Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga wants the squad to play at least two international preparatory games before taking on Zimbabwe in March.

Sihlangu, currently the group toppers in their AFCON 2017 qualifying group, meet Zimbabwe at home and away in must-win clashes if the local side is to rewrite the history pages by qualifying for the continental’s biggest showpiece for the first time.

Bulunga, interviewed yesterday, noted that the tight schedule in the domestic scene has greatly affected his squad. He, however, expressed hope that the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) will find common ground with the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS).
“It is a pity that between December and January there is no FIFA week, which would have obviously given us an opportunity to assemble the squad and see how we are.

The truth though is that we would greatly appreciate whatever space we are given as a national team between now and March. Otherwise everyone can see that the fixture programme is tight.

“We need to play at least two friendly games before we face Zimbabwe because it has been a long time since we played as a team. We cannot afford not to have preparatory matches,” he said.

NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu said it was in their plans to organise at least two friendly games for the squad.
“For now it suffices to say we are still studying in depth the squad’s programme. However, Sihlangu should be able to play at least a minimum of two international preparatory games ahead of the game against Zimbabwe,” he said.
