MBABANE – With 2015 coming to an end in three days time, Mbabane Swallows have made the most cash from winners and runners-up prizes.

The country’s CAF Champions League envoys have made a whopping E2 020 000 from prizes in 2015. The calculations exclude prizes from third place, endorsements and gate collections. Following them closely is Royal Leopard with E1 650 000 earnings.
The capital city giants made E270 000 for being the 2014/15 MTN league runners-up. They then beat Leopard after penalty shootouts in the King’s Super Cup, pocketing E600 000. They won the tournament 5-3 after penalties in a tension filled game played at the Somhlolo National Stadium on July 18.

His Majesty King Mswati III is the brains behind the tournament that saw South African soccer heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates participate. The Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati coached side had earlier in the one day festivities brushed aside Chiefs in penalty shootouts whilst Leopard needed the spot kicks to see off Pirates.

While Leopard returned the stick in the finals of the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup, raking in E850 000, Swallows pocketed E400 000 for being second place. Swallows beat the same Leopard to earn E750 000 in the finals of the Castle Premier Challenge in what was not only their third consecutive Castle final appearance but their third meeting with new rivals Leopard in a space of three months.

Moneni Pirates who were relegated from elite league football are the third highest earners after beating Manzini Wanderers 2-1 in the Swazi Bank Cup final back in April. They did not only beat Wanderers to the E800 000 first prize cheque but also earned the bragging rights of the Manzini City. Second half goals from Ndumiso ‘Karas’ Dlamini and Mfan’fikile ‘Fash’ Ndzimandze, who scored a wondrous goal, were enough to win it for Pirates at the Somhlolo National Stadium.
Wanderers for their efforts received E350 000 for coming second.

Leopard accumulated 53 points in 22 games to win the E600 000 MTN league prize, beating Swallows to the trophy.
Most recently, Mbabane Highlanders won the E300 000 first round incentive for being top of the MTN log standings halfway through the season.
