MBABANE – The Cycling Association of Swaziland (CAS) has been named first by the Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC) in the 2015 rankings table.

The fast growing sport in the kingdom is followed by the National Football Association (NFAS) and the Swaziland National Darts Association (SNDA) in the SNSRC 2015 review. According to the council’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Darius Dlomo, the criteria used were based on activities, compliance and continued development strategies.

“In the council’s year closing we have rated the associations that have best progressed in different aspects and on top of the list is cycling. CAS has been a revelation, hosting big events averagely every month with a handful of international participants. We say bravo to them,” he said.
“You can see continued development in terms of the different age groups and most importantly it addresses racial issues where black and white people play together for the love of the sport.

“Most importantly they do not rely on the council for funding to host their events but use the business community. We have cyclists who perform at the highest level in the community as seen in this year’s Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville,” Dlomo added.

While conceding that it will be unfair to compare CAS with the NFAS as football bragged of popularity and mass participation, he said the football mother body should be commended too for Sihlangu’s recent good run of form and also for tapping into social change activities as seen through the Soka Soccer Challenge, which aims at circumcising males for health related issues.

The Centre for HIV/AIDS Prevention Studies (CHAPS) on Saturday announced a E150 000 sponsorship to the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) to be competed for by 48 teams from the NFAS affiliate.
Dlomo said on third position in their review was SNDA.

“Before we knew darts as a sport played in bars but the association has done very well in carefully selecting playing venues and introducing the sport in schools. Darts is a good game that requires full concentration and by extent exercises the mind.”
