ZIMBABWE’S RAIL STARS CROWNED COMMISSIONER’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMP

MANZINI – Zimbabwe’s Rail Stars were yesterday crowned the champions of the 2015 Commissioner’s Volleyball Cup played at Mavuso Sports Centre.


The tournament started on Friday night on a round robin with local teams joined by Rail Stars and Red Skins of Lesotho. Rail Stars beat Correctional 3-1 in an entertaining clash watched by about 100 spectators at the venue. The visitors cruised to a 2-0 lead in the opening two sets winning 25-19 and 25-22 before Correctional somehow bringing back the hope to loud singing local crowd with a win in the third set.


It was not to be as Rail Stars won the next set to be confirmed as the champions. It was a better showing from Correctional after finishing third in both male and female categories in the past event.


Meanwhile, Correctional female team won the ladies category, beating Lesotho’s Red Skins 3-0 in the finals. They had brushed aside rivals Royal Swaziland Police in the semi finals, a game they convincingly won 3-0.
