MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns and Green Mamba are caught up in a dispute over the transfer of forward Shaka Nkwanyana.

The  promising forward, who intends joining the green and white outfit, is yet to kick a ball in an official match in the new season pending his clearance to Green Mamba. Reports suggest the former RSSC United striker has taken Sundowns to the Players’ Status Committee to demand his clearance.

Information gathered by this publication has revealed that Sundowns want compensation for the player. Nkwanyana had signed a two-year contract with Sundowns. It reportedly expired at the end of the past season.

Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa insisted that the player still had a running contract with the team as there was a clause that compels him to indicate his intention to leave or not two months before the expiry date.

“The player failed to indicate whether he will renew his contract or not, a move which automatically makes him a Sundowns player for another year.
I can be very disappointed if the matter can be taken to  the Players’ Status Committee as we are still trying to solve it amicably without involving a third party. We’ve invested a lot in the player as we’ve groomed him from a First Division team (RSSC).”

Sundowns bought the player from defunct RSSC for a reported E35 000 transfer fee about two seasons ago.
Green Mamba spokesperson, Thami Phakathi preferred not be drawn on taking the matter to the Player’s Status Committee but confirmed that negotiations over his transfer were ongoing.

“The player has been training with the team since the start of our preseason preparations and we’re still discussing his future with the hope of finding a way forward soon.”
The former national Under-20 striker could not be drawn for comment on the matter.
It is for the second time   for the two teams to be caught up in a transfer saga. Sundowns wanted to stop a move of then forward, Banele Mdluli, who was cleared to Green Mamba by Sea Birds in August last year.
A product of their youth academy, Sundowns claimed he was still theirs but ended up at Green Mamba
