MBABANE – The country’s shining Oyama Karate is set to be once again displayed in the Jacob Zuma Cup next month in South Africa – but this is if the sport’s association raises E150 000.

The Oyama Karate Association of Swaziland (OKKAS), which has Stanlib Swaziland and Manzini Fitness Zone among its sponsors, is appealing for financial assistance from the private sector and members of the public.
“We wish to send a team of no less than 30-40 artists to the Jacob Zuma Challenge in Gauteng, Vereeining Civic Centre on September 5. We’re well prepared and geared up for the challenge as we have been preparing for three months now,” said OKKAS PRO Sensei Mzwandile Ngwenya.

He said this would be their second international event and one in which they had made history as they won it before and had always done well. He appealed for any form of assistance to raise the E150 000 required to get the best representation in all categories of the tournament.

“We’ll be leaving the country on September 3 as we believe all will go according to plan. We have been doing well and the standard is now at par with even the best in the world. Just last week we brought home silver and bronze from a tough international competition in Zimbabwe including Japan,” he said.
He said the money would be used for accommodation, meals, transport and fighting fees for the artists.
