MBABANE – In a first of its kind in the 14-year Swazi Telecom Charity Cup history, the voting exercise was yesterday extended by a day, as teams huffed and puffed to reach the one million targeted votes to no avail.

By midnight, the 24 voting teams had only managed just 596 261 votes.
In a joint briefing after putting together the midnight votes, Swaziland Post and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) Managing Director Petros Dlamini and National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) executive member Johannes ‘Ace’ Siboza said the reason for the extension was that no team reached the 250 000 minimum votes target to win the E400 000 worth quantum that has already been purchased by the sponsor.

However the four teams that were on the lead by midnight , leaders Young Buffaloes, Mbabane Swallows, Royal Leopard and Manzini Wanderers have qualified for the one-day tournament.

“We thank all stakeholders for the effort put and we laud our partnership with PLS which is on its 14th year. We are proud and appreciate the votes met by the teams but we hereby announce a day voting extension because no team reached the 250 000 minimum votes to win the Quantum which had already been bought and registered,” Dlamini said.
