‘KOKI’, 2 ASSISTANTS ON ICE AT G. MAMBA

MBABANE – The future of Green Mamba coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati and two assistant coaches is under scrutiny at the club.

The two are; trainer Christian Thwala and goalkeeper coach Bheki Simelane, whose future at the club could be decided by Commissioner General Mzuthini Ntshangase.

All three, it has been alleged, have been put on ice pending a decision by Ntshangase after a recommendation by the MC for changes in the club’s technical bench. They were all not at training on Monday and yesterday when the 2014 Castle Cup winners started preseason training at the Matsapha Correctional Services Sports Ground.

Instead, the team was left at the hands of assistant coach Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya and two senior players Njabuliso Simelane and Mbuso Gina. A source close to the matter disclosed that the future of the trio was set to be decided yesterday evening in a meeting between the MC headed by Vusi Kunene and Ntshangase which was, however, postponed as the latter was held up.

“It’s something that happened on Monday. That’s when ‘DU’ and the senior players took charge of the club in the absence of Vilakati and his other assistants,” said the source close.

The club’s CEO Thami Phakathi, when reached on this, was diplomatic on the matter.
“What happens is that every end of season, coaches submit their report to the Management Committee (MC). The MC then sits to discuss the reports and submit its recommendations to the directors, in our case the commissioner general,” he said.

Asked a specific question on whether Vilakati and the club had parted ways, he insisted no such decision had been taken. “We are awaiting the commissioner general’s direction.
